Force Cinnamon Title Bar / Window Decorations Globally?

So is there any way that anyone knows of to force all windows in Cinnamon to have the "system title bar"? Some things have it, some do not, and some simply don't give the option (like by right-clicking) and the inconsistency is kind of a nightmare. Any way to just force all windows to have...

Re: Applications in Menu labeled by function rather than app name?

In this example, i installed Putty, and i pulled it from the "Internet" section in the software manager. The new icon shows in the same category in the Mint menu, in bold. Everything seems to be pretty well organized and consistent. Right, but it's not consistent in how it labels applicat...

Re: Applications in Menu labeled by function rather than app name?

Sorry, I meant to include my version. I'm on a fresh install of Mint 20.3 Cinnamon. Is that what you need? Yes, I need it to show the program name in the menu listing rather than the function. I can do this if I go program by program and manually rename them in Menu Editor, but I could have sworn th...

Applications in Menu labeled by function rather than app name?

Okay, I'm not a newbie by any stretch, but I can't figure out how to do this. I could swear in previous versions of Mint there was a way to toggle how applications are labeled in the Mint Menu. By default everything seems to be labeled by function instead of by application name (like "Text Edit...

Re: umount deletes mount point

*BUMP* Still having rampant problems with this. At this point I'd just like to completely disable automatic mounting of CD/DVD media entirely. The biggest problem is WINE. In WINE, I have to have my optical drive mount point defined as a drive letter. Unfortunately, with udev automounting things on ...

Re: umount deletes mount point

umount is performing correctly http://linux.die.net/man/8/umount The umount command detaches the file system(s) mentioned from the file hierarchy. A file system is specified by giving the directory where it has been mounted. Giving the special device on which the file system lives may also work, bu...

Re: umount deletes mount point

OK - 2nd guess, maybe it's a permissions thing. Try creating your mount point, then changing the permissions such that you can only access and not delete. (or better still, create the mount point in ~/ as root, or create the mount point a chown to root. This should prevent operations performed by y...

Re: umount deletes mount point

Instead of using umount, why not use eject? eject /home/trent/cdrom This keeps the mount point intact. You would think that, but no, it doesn't. In fact, even if I skip typing the "eject" command and just manually eject my CD tray with the eject button on the hardware, it does the same th...

umount deletes mount point

Okay, this one has me all spun up to the point where I need to take a break. In the mean time, perhaps some of you fine people will have some good suggestions, because I am at the end of my rope on this one. I like to mount my CDROMs at a mount point in my /home dir. I have added this line to my /et...

Re: [KATYA] Improve snapping window behavior ?

I can't speak for anyone else, but I couldn't get CCSM to stop doing crazy flaky stuff. When I tried changing the edge bindings setting in CCSM everything went black and then my window decorations/borders disappeared, and Compiz kept on crashing completely, which is why I recommended the downgrade p...

Re: [KATYA] Improve snapping window behavior ?

Unfortunately, it hasn't been answered, despite it being asked. Not that I found. Not a very helpful response, remoulder . :( However, I did an awful lot of searching yesterday, because this was a major headache for me, and I finally found a solution here: Click After doing this, I re-installed the ...

Re: mintUpdate steals focus

That isn't the problem. mintUpdate running on startup is fine by me.

The problem is while it's installing updates. It pops up messageboxes that steal focus. There needs to be a way for it to not do that.

mintUpdate steals focus

I have recommended Mint in its various editions to I have lost count how many people. This is hands down my favorite distro. I've written glowing reviews of it on my Linux blog, and I have to really nitpick to find anything critical to say. But there's one thing that I find bugs me more and more eac...

Gah... I'm a dolt. Here I was looking around to see confused I had to edit to fix this, when all I had to do was "sudo dpkg-reconfigure lxdm".

I got it now. Don't mind me. :P

Default display manager (SOLVED)

Okay, not completely sure how this got messed up, but here's my situation. I have FreeNX installed on my Mint 9 Fluxbox machine. I can connect to it remotely and when I do so I run GNOME in my FreeNX session. This is all well and good. If I'm on the console of this machine, I run Fluxbox, which is p...

Yeah, today I'm still getting this one: Failed to fetch http://packages.linuxmint.com/dists/isadora/Release Unable to find expected entry multiverse/binary-amd64/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?) Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instea...

Re: Mint Update failing to download all repository indexes.

Hmm... Odd, as yours seems to affect the 'multiverse' repo section rather than 'universe' as in my example; plus you seem to be running a different platform to me? I am, but I'm still getting the same sort of error, and it's driving me nuts. This link http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bu...
