I'm running Ivy Bridge too, and just wanted to give you a heads up. I was having intermittent system freezes. Upgrading the kernel fixed it for me. If I were u I would choose MATE 64-bit.
Mate is a lighweight distro and more appropriate than Cinnamon to this hardware.
Install it (via Synaptic or Software manager) and check it out.
