... a Perl (or even Python) one-liner, left as an exercise for the reader... It's just getting the 2nd field, the PID, out of the ps output for that syndaemon process. Re: Mouse stops working periodically

This issue is all over the ubuntu forums and 99% of those experiencing it are running Oneiric. Some think it is kernel related while others subscribe to the lightdm syndaemon as the issue. I am now running Mint 12x64 but I am using gdm to test the latter theory so we'll see how it goes

Re: How can I make Mint load a terminal command on startup?

... The job has to be triggered after logging in, not before. If you use auto-login, all you need to do to make it work is add a delay before syndaemon gets called: @reboot sleep 30 ; DISPLAY=:0.0 syndaemon -d -i 1 I used 30 (seconds) as an example. Of course, YMMV, so change the number to ...

Re: How can I make Mint load a terminal command on startup?

... cron table or script. Now since all the script does is perform this command and nothing else, you could just forgo the script and directly add syndaemon as a cron job. Modify your cron table to read as follows: @reboot DISPLAY=:0.0 /usr/bin/syndaemon -d -i 1 See if this would do it. HTH.

Re: How can I make Mint load a terminal command on startup?

No problem. You could try sticking syndaemon -d -i 1 in /etc/rc.local Terminal > sudo vi + /etc/rc.local Press the o/O (this is NOT Zero!) key and insert "syndaemon -d -i 1" without the quotes. Save with ESC then ZZ or :wq! and reboot. ...
