About 3 mouse clicks would enable kwallet for the few that need it enabled. KMail and Kopete will work with or without kwallet enabled.

It also takes 3 clicks then to disable it ;)

Also, I do not agree with replacing the kickoff menu with Gnome's. This is KDE. Trying to explain to a noob or anyone coming from another distro why there's a Gnome menu in a KDE distro might be kinda confusing. Again, this is a KDE distro. Any hybridization between Gnome and KDE should be left to the User to decide.*

*The exception here are decisions like Boo's to use Gnome's network manager, since that was a usability issue. One would expect to go away, if it hasn't already.

That is true. :) I originally came up with the idea of turning off kwallet by default from seeing other popular KDE based distros doing this by default. Many people will simply use Thunderbird rather than KMail if the wallet is left on because they do not know how to turn off kwallet. The whole idea revolves around being user friendly for people that are new to Linux and KDE 4. For me anyway, if I do not want someone seeing my e-mails I would just lock my screen when I was away from the computer. I never used KMail because of the wallet and honestly, I was missing out on a really nice application that is actively developed because I never took the time to find out that turning off kwallet would stop the password prompts. I really like how KMail can be configured and being a native KDE application is a plus for me too.

I agree completely! It would be a nightmare trying to get the mintMenu working in KDE anyway. The Kickoff menu is not so different to me because I use the Favorites section most of the time just like I do in the main edition.

This is Linux...There are ALWAYS alternatives! Sometimes - too many of them. :)

An other way is to click on the cancel button, the first time kmail or any other application asks for kwallet. Than the application "thinks" that there is no kwallet, and prompts the option to store the passwords itself.

Perhaps you could leave it enabled and just uninstall it... So if you need it, you could install kwallet and it just works, if you dont need it, do not install it...

In RE: KWallet...

Whats the big deal? ? ? ?

This is in the category of "If its not broke, don't fix [break] it!"

KWallet works and works good, why mess with?

KWallet, ENABLED.

For Helena:

1) Desktop mode restored
2) plasma disabled
3) Default apps:
a) Email - KMail
b) Browser- Konqueror
c) File Manager - Konqueror
4) OpenOffice - Min. V3.1 or better last release before a RTM release
5) Fill the rest of the DVD with other stuff
a) Frostwire
b ) what ever else we shove on the dvd

6) Latest ALSA for best audio system compatability
7) Latest HPLIP
8) Restoration of the smb://, etc. functions of Konqueror
9) Slaughter dolphin with the tunas!

Get the software from the source of the software ie: HP, OO, etc. if canonical does not want to keep, up.

Are any of them as good as Mint (GNOME) menu that can be incorporated with Mint KDE?

I'd say that is yes =) although I like the default KDE menu quite a bit. It doesn't take up much screen real estate and I like where the search feature is a lot better than the Gnome menu.

Rob Brill wrote:Gnome MPlayer - Out

KMplayer is available and I wonder why it's not included by default, but Gnome Player is included? This seems to be illogical.

In my opinion, included media players should be:

* KMplayer
* Dragon Player
* Songbird (Amarok still isn't back yet to it's 3.x glory days - maybe by KDE 4.4 it will be. Though I still thing it should be included on the DVD)
* MiniTube. MiniTube is a most excellent little program. Turns Youtube into a Flash-free TV 8)
Minitube is a native YouTube client. With it you can watch YouTube videos in a new way: you type a keyword, Minitube gives you an endless video stream. Minitube does not require the Flash Player.

Minitube should join the Mint family and become standard on all Mint versions IMO. Esp. since Flash is a PITA for so many people.

I tried Sabayon 5 DVD, and I have to say, I loved the installation process and the easy way it lets you choose the software you want to install, I say this because every KDE distro I've tested and Installed I always start by taking out the software I don't use or like (e.g. I always change Open Office for Koffice). It would be a lot easier if we were allowed to choose the software we want (or do not). For newbies, there would be a "default" option with the usual software...
If we're going to have that much free space in the DVD, let's use it!!!

Boo -

OpenSuse has released their Firefox-KDE integration changes downstream. This would be a major help for us in adding both polish and functionality to Mint KDE CE. I would hope we could use this in Helena. This mod, along with Firefox's Flashgot extension, are all that are needed to make Firefox look and play nice in KDE4.

Thanks goes out to the OpenSuse team for these enhancements.

Thoughts?

That looks cool! However, installation is a lot of work. Can this be made easy to install in Helena or be used as an alternative? Thanks!

It's a widget (already in kde), I just right-click, add widget, added it to the panel, and removed the kicker menu. :)

That's great! Will try Mint KDE 7 on a spare drive and do that. Thanks! Errr... how can I remove the kicker menu?
