Screensaver not activating

I can't get the screensaver to activate. I found a post on Ubuntu forums about adding
Code: Select all
Option         "DPMS"
to xorg.conf. It worked for Kubuntu (same screensaver bug), but not for Mint. I have never figured out what is causing it. Is there a way to activate one of the screensavers from the terminal to check for errors?

Well, I installed xscreensaver and got the screen to blank after the set time, but no screensaver.
