AWN logout/shutdown

Just made the switch from Gnome to KDE. Love KDE so far, but I have a problem in AWN and also tried Cairo Dock with same problem. If I use the shutdown applet in AWN nothing happens (no menu), no functionality at all. Same goes when I tried Cairo Dock. Cairo actually shuts down Cairo dock but not the computer (again no menu). Tried all new updates also. Am I missing some KDE configuration or is this a bug? Before I installed Mint KDE from disk I ran the live version with Cairo Dock and these problems were not present. Regular KDE shutdown menu works fine from KDE menu.
