KDE and Mate Installation Help Needed

Now my primary OS is Linux Mint 13 KDE 32-bit. It works great. But I decided to see if I could also install mate on this system so I could get the Cairo stuff. Well, I installed all the Mate stuff except mint-meta-mate. It said it was going to remove my KDE install if I tried to install that. Any suggestions?

I don't want to pooch my KDE installation to accomplish this.
