openoffice interface problems

Postby CJCorcoran on Sun Apr 13, 2008 9:43 pm

Hi. I seem to have a problem with the openoffice interface. I believe openoffice is a GTK+ app, correct? Well it is rendered in a bad way. I would like openoffice's interface to be rendered the way I have everything set in KDE. I've checked to see if GTK programs are rendered in Qt, they are. I've attached a photo to show you how openoffice renders and my normal kde setup. The green color in the openoffice background is me trying to play with the colors (I figured that wasn't the problem). Any suggestions?

In your package manager, do a search for openoffice. If your installation is like mine was, you only got the Tango theme, not the KDE theme. Scroll through the packages until you see Tango. You should also then see the KDE theme. I'd install and try that (I never had the issue you're experiencing, perhaps because I unmarked Tango and selected KDE before I installed) (I'll check the package name as soon as I finish backing up my laptop--I'm surfing on my wife's Mac at the moment).

Hope that helps,

Package name is openoffice.org-style-crystal. Other styles have the name openoffice.org-style-****. It may not be this; package description only mentions icon sets. But I can report that it's all I changed from the default install, and my Oo's not fugly. Also, you may want the Oo quickstarter (oooqs2-kde). On my old lappy (1G RAM), it causes no noticeable boot-lag, but nicely boosts the launch.

I checked the packages and I had tango as well as a few others -- including crystal -- installed. I believe that icon set show in the photo is crystal. Anyway, I tried uninstalling all of them and reinstalled crystal. That didn't help me. Problem still isn't solved. This isn't a serious issue, I would just prefer working with a prettier word processor, etc.

The same happens to my openoffice.org. It's not just because of that but I've been using Koffice instead. I would really like to get openoffice.org interface appealing because just as it is, uoooouuuu! Freaky!

The funny thing is I remember that it used the KDE interface before. I think an update or something I did to the settings in KDE changed openoffice's interface. Weird. It doesn't bother me too much, but it would be nice to have a change.

Browse through Adept after "openoffice.org-kde", this solved my issues!

Thanks, man. It worked! Which is weird because I was looking for a package like that but I couldn't find it. I guess I glossed over it last night and this morning.
