Opening downloads in Firefox solved

Postby Tony G on Sun Apr 13, 2008 11:41 pm

I just did a fresh reinstall of my Mint KDE (no issue with Mint; I was repartitioning my drive). After FF finishes a download, when I click either "open" or "open containing folder," nothing happens. I experienced this with my old install of Mint KDE, fixed it, and apparently forgot both about the fix and how to intelligently do a search for it on Google. :roll:

Thanks,

Anthony

Just a thought - it could be in about:config in FF

That sounds exactly right. I added two booleans and a string there before. Now, if only I could remember what those things were. . . . :oops:

Thanks, H

So far, I've failed to find the original tweak that I used, but the search did find on the Gentoo wiki: HOWTO Integrate Firefox with KDE. The stuff using the emerge command doesn't work for me, but the rest has. As a side-note, install TurboPrint (I know, I know, but I spent days failing to install my printers without it) before configuring KPrint, or you'll just have to do it again.

Is your download location set to Desktop? My was and it would not download anything until I changed it to another folder. Only problem I have is firefox has the annoying habit of changing the default location back to Desktop for some reason.

Hope this helps.

Finally, I found the original tweak I used:

Type "about:config" in the FF location bar;

Right-click on the main FF window and pick new --> boolean;

Name the preference "network.protocol-handler.expose.file", and set it to true;

Create another boolean called "network.protocol-handler.external.file", and set it to true;

Right-click one last time on the main FF window and pick new --> string;

Name it "network.protocol-handler.app.file", and set it to "konqueror" (or, if you prefer, "dolphin").

Fwiw,

Anthony

I think that's this issue, Steve: By default, Mint KDE won't show apps on the desktop. Go to Tasty menu --> System Settings. Click Desktop, then Behavior. Check "Show icons on desktop" and/or "Allow programs in desktop window."

But thanks for the reply.
