mouse buttons

It strikes me as funny that most mice today come with more than 2 buttons but no one has bothered to include a way to use these extra buttons in Linux unless you are willing to learn to program. I have researched and researched. In this research I forund BTNX which works with Gnome but does not apparently work with KDE. I have found where it says that if you want to use BTNX with KDE then you should compile it your self but I have no idea how to do this and no clear directions to do it.

Anyone out their that has gotten BTNX to work with KDE specifically with Linux Mint 13 KDE?
