Can't Get Steam to Run In Mint 14 KDE

Has anyone gotten Steam to run in Mint 14 KDE version? After I install it and attempt to run it the Steam cursor bounces around for a couple of seconds and then disappears. If I run "steam" at the command line I get:

Well to get it to work I had to intall the ia32-libs as well as install the latest Catalyst drivers from AMD website. I am now able to run Steam and have run my first game TF2. It is very responsive on my AMD Radeon HD 7770. If all the people that make Linux possible were to band together and maybe support one distribution like Mint, it really could give Windows some serious competition.

Now running with AMD Catalyst 13.1 drivers that were posted to AMD's website yesterday. No problems so far.
