Wi Fi problem - Solved

Postby ssreddy555 on Fri Feb 08, 2013 9:53 am

I have installed STA driver for Broadcom wi fi in my newly installed Mint 14 KDA from the software manager.

I'm not able to open pages from Google sites. Gmail did open once but thereafter, not opening. However, I'm able to open all pages when connected to wired connection.

Can anybody help me out? I had the same problem with Ubuntu 11.04 also.

Ok your wifi controller is a broadcom 4312 same as I have here on my laptop.
you will have to make a temporary LAN connection in order to install the driver for this card.

I believe you said your using KDE desktop if so go to system setting and click on the additional drivers icon.
it should offer you broadcom-sta install the driver from there.
reboot and all should work.

Hello. I had a problem like yours awhile ago. What I had to do is plug in the Ethernet cable, and download the wireless driver. I used the additional drivers feature, or restricted drivers. Look around in Mint and see if you can install the wireless drivers while connected with the Ethernet cord.

I have done the same already & rebooted. It says the driver is activated & is in use & lights up a green button.

But, it works for a minute or so & no further. i.e., it doesn't load any further.

In the bottom right panel, the wireless icon showed a green check mark to start with & then disappeared and all the four arcs of the wireless icon are active showing that the signal is excellent.

Ok, I could solve this problem.

It had to do with the TKIP protocol that my wi fi modem was using for the security. I changed it to AES proocol & everything is working fine.

Thanks for chipping in.
