Question about Packages

Postby jasmac on Sat May 24, 2008 1:44 pm

Hello, may I start by saying that I have been a big fan on mint for a while now, and it has always been my base system since switching from windows, even when dabbling with other distros on offer. I thought I would give the KDE variant a crack and boy am I happy I did. This is one great distro, congrats and thanks to all involved with putting it together. To my question, with the standard Mint there is AptonCd and Remastersys available, I notice they are absent with this. Is that because of compatability issues or am I able to install them from outside the repositories. If not is there alternates available that would do the job. Any assistance is appreciated. TIA

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

As far as I know aptoncd is in the Daryna KDE edition by default - and I see it in /usr/bin (in main now)

aptoncd and remastersys are NOT present on the KMint Daryna DVD.

You can install from downloads at their sites.

Thanks for correcting me - but I see aptoncd in /usr/bin.... (in Nautilus in the main edition) - checked before I answered. But it's not often that I use the KDE edition even if my intention is to use it a bit more...

Thankyou for the answers, I wish I had chased it up earlier as it they would have come in handy. I managed to drop my lappy on its head and need to start again on my backup, which is even older than the one I just dropped. Thanks again.
