I'm XP-free. Thanks!

Postby Tony G on Tue Jun 10, 2008 10:25 am

Over the weekend, I deleted my Windows XP partition. I just wanted to thank everyone involved with Linux Mint, with a special thanks to those involved with the KDE CE, for having the kindness, patience, and knowledge to shepherd someone like me, who only started working with Linux this year (see my join date), through this scary but happy transition. Kudos! Y'all are great.

Best regards,

Anthony

I also cleaned my HDD when beta 048 came out. I'm also Windows-free now, and still able to play Counter-Strike and Counter-Strike:Source as well as Oblivion without major lags. The rest of my applications I used on windows were already open source, so the "final" step: Switching the OS and get the games to work on linux has finally been made by me.

And it feels great. I will have to do a clean reinstall though, when the KDE CE is coming out, because Gnome is just not ... sufficient for dual-head environments.

My world would be perfect if mint would be a KDE distribution on the mainline.

I have my system as dual boot Linux mint & win XP. Though I use linux 99.9% of the time and only ever XP if there is no linux alternative which is getting less & less. I have Mepis & Linux Mint to thank for converting me.

I'll continue to use both until I get some engineering applications working on Linux. Also, I cannot give up playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare for 100% Linux use. It's just too much fun! Gaming is still XP until who knows.

Sadly I keep WinXP on a notebook for one game... I just can't get it to run under Wine. But otherwise I'm almost there...

Feels good to be windows free. I unplugged my Windows HDD and packed it away for when grandkids gets this computer. New OS & HDD, couldn't be happier.
