I binned windows and had the following setup:-
30gb Ext4 (mount /) formatted
710gb Ext4 (mount /home) (left "as is")
Previously running Linux Mint 14 KDE (64 bit under UEFI dual booted with Windows . System (including Windows totally wiped.
Prior to that I had Linux Mint 14 Cinnamon (32 bit CSM dual booted with WIndows
System up and ran fine but would occasionally lock up. After this the system would boot to the login screen, but after entering user and password presented with a blank screen (mouse cursor present and can be moved with trackpad). Reboots do not resolve the problem. Have followed other users by editing kwinrc config file to disable compositing but this had no effect.
Only solution is to reinstall (from flash drive) but problem simply resurfaces (doesn't even have to have lock up for post login blank screen issue)
In the meantime I've now switched the bios to CSM and installed Mint 15 32bit Cinnamon which is running without issue.
