hplip doesn't show up!!!

Hello, I have a weird problem... I'm trying to install a printer HP Photosmart C4180 on a laptop compaq presario 900US, and don't have any problem with the driver or the printer. my problem starts when I install the Linux Mint 5 KDE in the hard drive.
because when i'm using the Live CD the Hplip tool works very well, but when I decide to install the distro... everything work fine, except for the hplip cause I click on the icon and then nothing happen, I went to the Konsole and the program apparently is running (no error messages) but nothing appears. Is there anyone can help me....

Ohh and I'm sorry for my english i'm trying my best!!

I had the same issue.
as to why it's like that I have no idea???

so, this is what I did:

I removed the installed hplip driver with adept, then went to Hp's web sight and downloaded the latest version of there hplip Linux driver.
you can get version 2.8.9 Here.
instructions are there how to execute the .run file from the terminal.
