Fonts huge after screen res change

Postby rec9140 on Wed Feb 04, 2009 8:45 pm

I changed the screen resolution on one of my setups to be larger, all was fine till I had to shutdown and restart for other reasons.

I restarted, the login page and the words for Username and Password are covered up by the input boxes, and then the fonts on the screen are HUGE.

After some searching I find that via KControl I can set the fonts to 96dpi, restart X, and everything is back to normal.

My question is what caused this to happen, when I didn't need this setting before. The Force Fonts to 96 DPI setting resolves the desktop huge fonts, but the login spash screen is still messed up, not a huge issue.

I am sure this is an xorg.conf setting or something that needs to be cleared.

As long as this "force..." option is active all is fine.

I am more curious as to what caused this than anything, and possibly getting it back to "normal" since the force option was not needed before.

I don't really know why this happens sometimes but it has to do with how X is started I think - this is early on in the entire boot process

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it
