Mint KDE not logging in [solved]

Postby new2linux_& on Mon Apr 13, 2009 10:37 am

I recently had a less than pleasurable encounter with Mint. When I tried to login, the system would simply blink and return me to the login screen again. I tried https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/278617, but I did not find pam_smbpass.so. I decided to try commenting some of the options, but they only gave me critical error messages. I hope somebody can respond to me as soon as possible, for many important files are in my mint partition.

I run a Macbook 2,1 with rEFIt and a Mint 6 KDE CE partition.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

this is a KDE related problem.
I have seen posts to fix this by uninstalling KDM and installing GDM or compleatley reinstalling KDM.

The problem is probabbly due to the repo being used for updates.
It is best to enable the KDE4 experimental ppa repo and then do an update and upgrade using your favorite tool.

Thank you very much for your prompt and effective ailment. I installed gdm instead of kdm, and that solved the problem, although I did have to download a different screen as a replacement for the Ubuntu splash. Nevertheless, everything works out fine.
