Updating

Postby rbsjrx on Thu Aug 13, 2009 2:20 pm

I'm currently running Mint 6 KDE-64. From the repository, all I see is the "main updater", which I presume is for the main GNOME fork. Is the main updater usable for the KDE CE, or is there something else I should be doing. Also, since there is not yet a 64-bit version of the KDE CE (when is one due?), would I be inviting disaster to try to update right now anyway?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

OK, my mistake uname -a says it's i686. It was, However, an honest mistake - the last time I updated, it was from Ubuntu Studio 64 to Mint 6.

However that still only answers half of my question. Should I use the main updater to update to Mint 7? Does it understand all the differences between the main fork and the KDE CE?

the last time I updated, it was from Ubuntu Studio 64 to Mint 6.

From a 64 bit system to a 32 bit?? I don't think that's possible.... (uname -a says it's i686)
And it is not possible to upgrade from Ubuntu to Mint without a lot of work, but to get a mintified Ubuntu is simple
There is no main updater for upgrading versions in the repositories, you may have seen mintUpdate which is the normal tool to keep your system up to date
You can find the upgrade path in the release notes but in your case a fresh install is recommended
