Not sure but after finding another thread about ALSA-BASE upgrades I managed to some how get this upgraded to the 1.0.20 version and the problem is solved. Clean, working, and reliable audio.
I am not sure how I managed it but when I went to use the LinuxAnt deb via:
- Code: Select all
sudo dpkg --install alsa-driver-linuxant_18.104.22.168_all.deb.zip
There was an error about something in /etc/ ??? being changed or overridden and wanted me to correct it so I hit Y to let correct it.. and after that I had working audio and the ALSA-BASE 1.0.20 was finally installed.
The audio started working BEFORE dpkg finished or a reboot, so the problem was what ever that error from the ALSA upgrade script.
I wish I could recall error or find it in the /var/log but none of the logs seem to have that info...
ok. I found the error in another log....:
- Code: Select all
Configuration file `/etc/issue'
==> Modified (by you or by a script) since installation.
==> Package distributor has shipped an updated version.
What would you like to do about it ? Your options are:
Y or I : install the package maintainer's version
N or O : keep your currently-installed version
D : show the differences between the versions
Z : background this process to examine the situation
The default action is to keep your current version.
*** issue (Y/I/N/O/D/Z) [default=N] ? dpkg: error processing base-files (--configure):
EOF on stdin at conffile prompt
Errors were encountered while processing:
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
I got lucky that I got it installed...... since I am not sure what corrected the error the above, my Y during the linuxant install which finally showed this error on the konsole or the linuxant deb package itself.
So to sum up:
Any one looking to use this boards internal/on board audio will REQUIRE your distro to have the 1.0.18 OR LATER ALSA-BASE installed (which is why KcruDE 4.xx worked, it has 1.0.18).
The intel-hda which is alsu used by nvidia-hda driver that this included in earlier versions will not work for useable audio. It will be scractchy, echo, and choppy.
See the ALSA upgrade thread here:http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1046137http://www.linuxant.com/alsa-driver/
NOTE: DO NOT accept any ALSA-BASE or hda-intel module updates or you will probably have to fix your audio again.
So KDE 3.5.10 Elyssa KMint is on my new PC, and I can finish software installs and configurig.....
