KDE and Gnome both installed?

Postby Firecrow on Thu Oct 15, 2009 11:06 pm

I currently have gnome Gloria installed on my computer. I would like to also have KDE Gloria installed i was wondering if there was a way to do this withought creating another partition. I know for ubuntu it was easily done by just switching sessions i was just curious if it was that simple in Mint.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I believe this can be done by going to Synaptic Package Manager and installing the KDE meta package (mint-meta-kde) to your Gnome OS. At login, there is a session choice option where you can select which desktop to run for the session. I have not done this with Gnome and KDE but I have done it with XFCE and LDXE and it worked fine.

I have both editions on on HD, just use separate partitions and boot into which one I want. I am finding that I am using KDE a lot more now, now that I am getting the hang of it! Both versions are great, can't wait for the release of Mint 8! :D
