Unable to connect to WLM through Kopete

Postby Zeroangel on Thu Feb 18, 2010 1:40 pm

Hey all,

I've just installed Mint KDE CE a week ago and I have to say that its top notch! (coming from a previous KDE3 Lover/KDE4 Hater)

However I am having one single problem, and that is connecting to my Windows Live Messenger account through Kopete. I've input the correct information, however WLM seems to get stuck during the "Connecting" phase, and never actually fully connects, it just remains "Connecting" indefinitely.

Another thing I noticed is that when I input the wrong password, a message will pop up saying that my password was rejected by the server and it will give me the option to re-enter my password.

Anyone have ideas?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

OK, probably some context /data is now needed
What version of Kopete is being used, which version of live messenger service is being used..

Maybe there is a plugin that works ?..

Your description of the password popup makes it sound like a configuration setup error for kopete or possibly kwallet, if that is what you are using for password management
The usual advice is run the application from the command line ( a terminal) and see if there are any errors being displayed, when the application starts..

Thank you for your post, however none of those links were the solution to my problem.

I actually posted the thing Re: the password to indicate that I can actually communicate with the WLM server (to rule out connectivity issues). I don't think anything is wrong with kwallet. I really hope to get Kopete working since I've used it in its early days and it was an excellent IM client.

If not i'll just use Emesene (which is another great MSN client)
