All executables/applications have the same icon

Post by fuzzyghost »

I have two applications that are not standard, in the repository deals; NetRadiant, and Urban Terror. I've made shortcuts for them on the desktop, but at first they had the gear. So I went into their properties, and changed their icons individually, but when I restart, all application/executable files then have the last set icon. I tried making a symbolic link, but the same thing happens (except now, it says that it is Updating system configuration, and restarts when it hits 100%). Is there a way I can create a custom launcher, that isn't the executable itself, but will execute the program, and have it's own icon?
Thanks in advance.

How are you creating these "shortcuts" ?

Right click on the desktop then Create New ... Link to Application....

You can set this up any thing you like... and there is the option to set the icon...

What are you trying to create these links for? ? Specific examples...

I'm creating them by right-clicking the executable, and selecting "Add to Desktop." I'm creating them for the two programs I mentioned in my last post; NetRadiant, and UrbanTerror.
I right click on the desktop, but I don't get create new. Instead I get:
*Run Command
*Add Widget
*Add Panel
*Remove this Desktop Activity
*Lock Widgets
*Lock Screen
*Leave
*Desktop Activity Settings

Any other advice?

Step 1

DISABLE plasma mode and RETURN to the NORMAL DESKTOP

Right click or system settings will allow you to return to normal mode you want and need.

Step 2

Right click on your desktop, then you will get the correct menu shown.

Then you click on "link to application"

You will need to go through the setup up process once. Save to create the icon on the desktop. Right click on the new icon, click properties and then you can change the icon to your own choice.

This can link to any thing you want....

I'll need more specific instructions on disabling Plasma, as I did not find anything related to it in the system settings, right-click dialog, and a Google search turned up nothing either.

Thanks, I was able to create the shortcuts, and give them their own icons.
I'm just curious though, what exactly does the plasma desktop do?

I don't use it either, but there is this from KDE.org for more information. Looks cool, but I don't know if I'd have a need for it.
