[SOLVED] dpkg-query: parse error MergeList

went to use mintUpdate, it found 4 packages to upgrade pertaining to chromium-browser
preparing to replace chromium-browser , when i got an error
mintUpdate halted, unable to upgrade
still showed 4 packages to upgrade, listed them
i closed it

mintUpdate icon showed a red X, "could not refresh the list of packages" on mouseover

gave the error;
