Thanks for trying :)

The last and only thing I can see is that your perms in the first screen snap shows user users and mine shows rec9140 rec9140 and this is a perms
On the installed versions do a chown username:username on the hello.txt file and then try to move it...
Other than that which I doubt seriously will fix it.. I have not got a clue as like I said I just not duplicate it.. :(

I will try but I doubt it has something to do with the permissions since it's happening also on the live dvd. I will also check for the DVD integrity.

What version of KDE are you using? I can't duplicate that on KDE 4.6. I can drag icons around the desktop with no problems.

KDE 4.6.0

I downloaded Mint 10 last week and made a fresh install.

Any reason you have not done the updates to 4.6.1? ?

If not please do those, and try again.

I finally found a way to duplicate this.... If I run the Live DVD with 4.6.0 and set the mouse to NON *nix mode, then it only allows me to do exactly what you describe.

On my test machines all 4 of them with 4.6.1 in EITHER mode will do what you request drag files on desktop in NON *nix mouse mode.

Just use the mintUpdate tool that runs, in the lower right will be a shield with an i or green check mark.

Update!

Open then that up, enter root password, get the list of updates... then sort it by size, then UNCHECK libmarblewidget10 which will be 0 bytes and cause a failure.

There will be about ~270+ updates to do....
