KDE stable release

Postby fs1_ on Mon Nov 26, 2007 8:13 pm

When will Mint KDE be release as a stable version?
Since I can't get the internet working with the main Mint 4.0, I'm hoping it will somehow work with the kde version!

Will he have Compiz fusion installed and working out of the box? In the beta edition I can't make it work no matter what I do (I searched and followed every little detail and howtos I found). Waiting to see the results of your fantastic work though.

I take it it'll have KDE 4 in it, or will we have to upgrade separately? :p

I think you may have to upgrade separately if you want it, I believe Boo didn't find it stable enough to be included yet...

It would be great if you (Boo) would make a KDE adaption of KDE4 for Darnya, after it has been released =)
I know this is a lot of work, but it would still be great.

Or is it possible to get KDE4 and later install a mint Theme ? That'd be cool.

It would not be easy to swap. So no.
another good reason to have /home on a separate partition.

For those interested, Ars Technica has a review of KDE4 RC2, with a few screenshots and all...

A first look at KDE 4.0 release candidate 2

While it looks nice, it seems a lot of debbuging is still needed :-(

I have saw the KDE 4 RC2, itś beautiful but, i think that it isn't a RC versión, it have much bugs, the RC2 is more similar to a beta version than RC version.
I think that it will not be stable in Jannuary, i think that this will take a month more.
Excuse me for my poor english, bye friends

Right, RC might be a little optimistic ;-)

I guess they will release it on-time but there will still be many features missing. I guess they'll deliver them later. Anyway, I'll go get the Final as soon as it is released.

I'm using KDE 4 RC2 as the default desktop in Mint 4.0 and from my experience it is usable.I agree that it has huge fonts/occasional freezes, most of the applications are not ported and the plasma is far from complete but when other major distros start adding things to KDE after it gets released, we will get a nice KDE. If you feel that RC2 should have been called as Alpha/beta, please read

http://aseigo.blogspot.com/2007/11/why- ... other.html

You can always submit bugs to KDE to help them(us).

I have found a big bug when installing on my laptop so I have to rebuild from a working beta.
but apart from the rebuild it is ready to go.
so rebuild, test and release.

KDE devs have said that the release of KDE4 upcoming is not really intended for the general public, its a release for software devs to start learning the new API, port old KDE < 3.5 apps to 4, and ofc new apps. :)
While i may have a peek at KDE4 at release, i think i will wait until 4.1 or 4.2 before making it my everyday choice.
