Additional Drivers (NVidia) won't install - SOLVED

Postby Hugo Notte on Sat Jan 21, 2012 2:34 am

With Mint 12 KDE RC 64 bit I have got the following problem:
Like previous Mint editions (any desktop) the GeForce GT 240 card needs special treatment in order to work. Booting of the live CD works only by editing the boot string, replacing 'quiet splash' with 'nomodeset'. It then boots in 800 x 600 resolution.

After installation, one can only boot into safe mode (2nd boot menu option) until the proprietary graphics driver is installed.

With Mint 12 KDE I have got the problem, that the driver would download but the installation ends with the message that it couldn't be installed.

Any idea?

yes i have idea because i spent my last 4 hours to fix this problem and i fixed that up.:-)
here is my solution
i am not a expert of linux but this is a kernel issue i reckon.
step 1
http://www.upubuntu.com/2012/01/how-to- ... under.html
step 2
goto additinal driver and actived your nvidia driver.
if you have nvidia optimus that you want to use you can also install ironhide.
here is the installation guide for ironhide.

Thanks for the reply. I will try that now. Just strange, that Ubuntu 11.10 didn't give me trouble with installing the NVidia drivers. Will try now and give feedback.

This worked for me too. Is there a way to revert to the mainline kernal once this problem has been fixed?
