GPS dongle not found

I am using the latest Mint KDE 64-bit on a HP Compaq nc6400. . . software manager does not work, so I have learned how to use Synaptic Package Manager.

I have been trying to get a GPS dongle to work so I can go hiking with my laptop.

I can not find tangogps http://www.tangogps.org/ the site seems to be down, So I have been using viking

Then in terminal when I list devises with the following commands cd /dev then ls I get a long list but no GPS device? it is a bluenext the same as in the video and seems to be working, but will not appear on thee list.

What do I do next?
