HP Deskjet 1000 J110 (was no HPLIP on PPA, correct?)

Postby shengchieh on Fri Jan 07, 2011 9:45 pm

I recently brought a HP Deskjet 1000 J110 which needs the the latest HPLIP driver, i.e., version 3.10.9. - the earlier version of HPLIP won't do.

I prefer to add this within synaptic package manager than as a standalone. So I have been looking at the ubuntu PPA library. This library doesn't
seem to have HPLIP. Am I correct? Or am I missing something? I.e., a search for hplip in

https://help.launchpad.net/Packaging/PPA

yields

https://help.launchpad.net/HelpOnAction ... alue=hplip

A search for hplip in

https://launchpad.net

doen't give much

https://launchpad.net/+search?field.text=hplip

Bottom line: What is the easiest way to install HPLIP 3.10.9?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

32-bit hplip: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hp ... ld/2092383
64-bit hplip: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hp ... ld/2092381

Note that these are packages from the yet-to-be-released Ubuntu Natty 11.04, so use them at your discretion. But if you insist on having an easy way to install this specific hplip version...here you go.

I having trouble installing HPLIP 3.10.9. I am trying two angles: 1) using the link given and 2) using hplip.3.10.9.run from sourceforge.

1)
I noticed 11 deb files. Which one(s) do I need? Or do I need them all?

* hpijs_3.10.9-0ubuntu7_i386.deb (354.3 KiB)
* hpijs-ppds_3.10.9-0ubuntu7_all.deb (550.1 KiB)
* hplip_3.10.9-0ubuntu7_i386.deb (78.7 KiB)
* hplip-cups_3.10.9-0ubuntu7_i386.deb (285.9 KiB)
* hplip-data_3.10.9-0ubuntu7_all.deb (7.0 MiB)
* hplip-dbg_3.10.9-0ubuntu7_i386.deb (1.0 MiB)
* hplip-doc_3.10.9-0ubuntu7_all.deb (514.5 KiB)
* hplip-gui_3.10.9-0ubuntu7_all.deb (18.9 KiB)
* libhpmud-dev_3.10.9-0ubuntu7_i386.deb (9.5 KiB)
* libhpmud0_3.10.9-0ubuntu7_i386.deb (100.9 KiB)
* libsane-hpaio_3.10.9-0ubuntu7_i386.deb (118.4 KiB)

The command is

dkg -i [name.deb]

correct?

2)
When I execute hplip.3.10.9.run, I get

Code: Select all
....
...
...
INSTALL MISSING REQUIRED DEPENDENCIES

warning: Missing REQUIRED dependency: python-devel (Python devel - Python development files)
warning: This installer cannot install 'python-devel' for your distro/OS and/or version.
error: Installation cannot continue without this dependency. Please manually install this dependency and re-run this installer.

I don't see python-devel in synaptic package manager. Is python2.6-dev, python-all-dev, or something else, I need?
I noticed I have python 2.6.4-0ubuntu1 installed.

thank for the help.

Download and move all of those deb packages into a single directory, and then:
Code: Select all
cd /path/to/directory
sudo dpkg -i *.deb

It's dpkg (Debian package management system), and you'll want to install all of them at the same time to avoid dependency hell, so that's where the "*.deb" comes from.

Nuts! Having dependency issue. Is the problem because I am still using L.M. XFCE version 8 instead of L.M. XFCE 9? When will L.M. XFCE
version 10 be out? Will it has HPLIP 3.10.9 instead of HPLIP 3.10.8 (ubuntu version)? In other words, it is worth waiting for the next version 10? Or
should I go ahead with version 9? If you are a developer, please do NOT rush version 10 - it's better to be good than timely. So if you
post any date, be conservative, not liberal.

Anyway the error message is

But I'm inclined to install a later version or something else that has HPLIP 3.10.9 (they are just starting to come out).

LM Xfce 10 will be released when Merlwiz has time to release it. In other words, probably not within the foreseeable future.

Code: Select all
sudo dpkg --configure -a
should fix your dependency issues by removing all those packages. Now, try running the hplip.run file and install the drivers from there, but before you do so...
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install python-dev
