I too had this problem and the proposed solution only worked partially, I'm afraid. It was a new installation and I'd probably done far too much tweaking and not not enough rebooting in between, so probably my fault - it's only a machine after all. I had to to do a complete re-install
As I was down with the flu, I had the time. Everything looking good now, so fingers crossed...
Self-assembled 32-bit i3 machine, worked very well under the late SolusOS, from which I am a sad refugee:
Processor : 4x Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2130 CPU @ 3.40GHz
Memory : 2817MB (360MB used)
OS : Linux Mint Maya Xfce and no other.
