Is there a way in xfce to disable the touchpad (synaptics) while typing, similar to gnome?

Not in 4.8...

I believe it will be a new feature in XFCE 4.10

But if its a standard touchpad/trackpad you can use the package 'gpointing-device-settings' in package manager (Apt, synaptic or Mint's 'Software Manager')

P.S. theirs a comand (CLI) to do it but the above is easier :P put icon in panel.

Edit their also mintinput (I think works in XFCE) but only in repos of Ubuntu versions not LMDE ones
