This has been asked before but here are my Mint 15 xfce tweaks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRpM72yQI9M works with any XFCE 4.10 and above desktop

4. Change compositing to give the windows shadows, and so forth
Settings Manager -> Window Manager Tweaks -> Compositing see [rimg]http://i.imgur.com/Czu9xQr.png[/rimg]
5. Desktop Tooltips (icon mouse flyovers) can be disabled. In your home folder - hold right Ctrl and H Open the file .gtkrc-2.0 and add the following line to it:

You can change how often the wallpaper changes or untick and the wallpaper will change each time you login.

XFCE can easily be set to change the desktop background randomly, chosen from a list that you specify, every n minutes. Variety may (IDK) have additional features, but if not, that's one less thing running in the background, lol.usbtux wrote:7. You are of course right I've change the above to show how to do it. I use Variety to manage/download wallpapers and add a filter to blur the wallpaper.MtnDewManiac wrote: XFCE can easily be set to change the desktop background randomly, chosen from a list that you specify, every n minutes. Re: pimping xfce 15
Since XFCE already allows the user to increase or reduce the saturation of the background wallpaper, wouldn't it be really nice if (in future versions of XFCE) there'd be a feature that would let you selectively blur parts of the background or just blur the background entirely (with a percentage slider, of course)?usbtux wrote:You are of course right I've change the above to show how to do it. KWin works suprisingly nice with Xfce, that's what I use.
Very easy to do with Synaptic also.
Also consider OpenBox with compton

Re: pimping xfce 15
my tweaks:
. Remove Mint Cog menu, add Whisker menu (ok its the same thing right?) but the Icon for Whisker is way nicer !
. Get a nice theme like '+1' for a flat / windows 8 / smart phone look
. incresase the panel in size (dependent on resolution and screen size) I run 1080p so my Task bar is set at '37'
. Get some nice icons like Numix-Utouch / Malys / Faenza: http://www.noobslab.com/2011/11/themes-collection-for-ubuntu-1110-unity.html#icons
. stick to a clean wall paper like a gradient
- Add weather to the panel
. Chang the fonts and clock font on the panel to something you like
. Add a docky ?
. Add a Conky http://www.noobslab.com/2012/07/conky-collection-for-ubuntulinux.html
. Add synapse ! amazing program pretty much removes the need for docky or any other launcher.
In start up menu:
.Turn off mint welcome menu in
.Turn off mint upload
.Turn off printers / cups (if you have no printer)
.Turn off bluetooth if you dont use it!
. Turn of Cairbou if you dont use it
memory on 64bit should be about 230mb on boot
Thread should be sticky. The mint version of XFCE is way better than stock XFCE in looks but even so many are put off initially by its old school feel, they need not be as its the fastest most stable out there.
