Update has destablised M13

Postby PussyCat on Sat Sep 07, 2013 4:17 pm

Previous update was 27th June. Today did minor update and the balance of my Mint 13 Xfce has been jeopardised.

Updated FF and a couple of components from 22 to 23 and Opera from 12.15 to 12.16. Both through Synaptic. All seemed well.

Then looked at MintUdate and took the 1's (4) and 2 (only 1)

as shown in history below.

thunderbird-gnome-support (17.0.7+build1-0ubuntu0.12.04.1) to 17.0.8+build1-0ubuntu0.12.04.1

After the latter I observed that cpu load was at about 50% instead of it's usual tickover of 2%.

Tried restarting xserver both with Shift+Ctrl+BkSp and by logging out but no improvement.

Rebooted and all seemed well with cpu load but Screenlets and Compiz no longer auto-start (the latter resulting in no window decorations either). Start Compiz through Fusion Icon and also Screenlets and all seems well - until restart xserver and cpu load again permanently at least 50%.

What have these updates done to what was a smooth enjoyable experience and, most importantly, how can equliibrium be restored?
