Optomising Tips?

Postby newio on Tue Oct 14, 2008 9:10 pm

Hi All,

I've installed XFCE Mint on my Acer Aspire One. Am very happy with how its performing currently, looks great on the small screen (have reduced font sizes etc to get it looking good on the screen). I followed evertyhing on the Ubunutu guide to get it running ( https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AspireOne ).

I'm now looking for some further boot time improvements / speed improvements on the system. Basically anything to make it as light weight as possible. Any ideas?

One more thing, to anyone whose using the AAO; have you been able to get the right hand side card reader working?

uh, and one more general question:

Im using Kopete on KDE Mint for IM, which allows MSN web cam'ming. Pidig that comes with XFCE does't. Is there any alternative's that allow for MSN video calls? I know i could install Kopete, but i don't want to have to load up all the KDE Libs to get it happening (i chose XFCE because its cut down environment...)

newio, I think aMSN supports webcams/video calls. I'm not sure whether its distrocentric so I dunno how many libs would have to load etc.

Preload is the package. It takes time for preload to learn your habits though.
