( Unsolved, gave up )Volume control in panel ?

Post by gibbsre »

Can anyone tell me how to put a volume control on the panel ? Also, my keyboard used to work my volume control by default with the Mint standard edition, but it wont with Xfce.
Any one have any experience to share in this regard ?
Thanks for any knowledge, or experience anyone can share.

Edit: I managed to get the volume icon back in the panel where it belongs, but I still have the issue with the keyboard control.

Thanks,

Ron

Install aumix to get the volume control for the keyboard.
Some how it got removed when I rebased Linux Mint XFCE CE on Xubuntu.

You should have it there but you can add it by right clicking and clicking add to panel.

Since I installed aumix, my volume control in the panel disappears, and I can't add it the usual way(opening up "add applet" and double clicking it), but if I add it by dragging it to the panel, it sticks, but every time I log out it disappears again. :(
Don't know if it's related, but that's the only change I've made... :?:

I could only get the "volume control" to be added to the panel by dragging it.

You can make a mixer for the panel by making a launcher that launches xfce4-mixer.

The mixer looks like a speaker, the master volume looks like a vertical bar.

I tried repeatedly to "add it to the panel", but that was what was NOT working. I tried everything that was suggested, and nothing worked. I finally had to completely reinstall, and something in my home partition made the new install react the same way. I removed a bunch of stuff, reinstalled for about the tenth time, and finally got it corrected. I never found out what was causing the original problem. Most likely my lack of knowledge.

ok I've the same problem. Can't fix it, but found a way which satisfies my needs ... running in terminal: xfce4-mixer and changed it to fit my demands (adding surround, ...) the pcm volume has keyboard hotkeys, too. works as good as possible I think.

Where do you find the volume control to drag in there?
