System Bell? [SOLVED]

Postby Gumbotron on Thu Apr 09, 2009 2:54 am

How can i disable the system bell? I dont know if thats the loud ass noise that my comp makes but its a loud beep thats really annoying. Like when i restart it make the noise when it logs out or when i boot up and makes the noise when the login screen appears. As well when i try to find something on a webpage on epiphany and i press backspace to much it makes that stupid as noise or it doesnt find the word im lokkin for as well. makes the damn noise almost every chance it f***in gets. I tried searchin on how to disable it and found an article or blog on how to disable it but cant find that page. then i found an article about blacklistin your comp speaker which i wasnt comfortable with that solution and seemed a bit dangerous for some reason. O and the option to allow XFCE to manage my desktop keeps on gettin uncheck and mess up my desktop.

Any ideas on a solution for the two?

O yes i usin the XFCE mint version soo...

There aren't any system sounds in XFCE.
It has to be the application your using.

Gumbotron, I know exactly what you are talking about. My loud beep sounds at the same times that yours does, including during logout. It is so loud that I find myself compelled to turn the volume all the way down before I shut down my computer.

Merlwiz79 is correct that it is not it is not an XFCE thing. My laptop had this problem when I used the Mint Main Edition, and also when I used Ubuntu. I have seen a variety of ideas in the Ubuntu forums and elsewhere, even a command line solution, but none of them have completely worked for me :?

Thanx i think that did the trick. The problem had nothin to do with the volume. i would mute it and the problem would still persist, but thanx to Richard its fixed.
