updates

I am running Cassandra Xfce CE, and I wonder what should I be doing about updates from Canonical. When I read the threads in other parts of Mint forum I keep seeing references to Gnome and KDE, so I'm not sure what to do in Xfce. I took a look at the Software Portal and mintUpdate isn't there.

What to do then:

1. continue installing updates from Canonical.

2. discontinue updates, rely on next Mint version to fix and patch.

3. use mintUpdate to get updates.

Thanks

Well you can remove update-manager and install mintUpdate.
The info for mintUpdate-xfce is here:

I completely removed update-manager, which action also removed update-notifier. After installing mintUpdate everything seems to be doing fine. There is a lock symbol in the sys tray that says "Your system is up to date"

However, looking at synaptic, of the seven packages that pertain to "update-", there are still two packages that remain installed, namely, update-inetd and update-manager-core. Question: should I remove these two packages as well?

I still haven't installed icons and launcher.

I know you don't need update-manager-core, but I'm not in XFCE so I have no idea about update-inetd.
Also not everything will show in mintUpdate.
You can change this in the preferences by checking the unsafe levels.
