Just finished installing the RC version and I noticed the 'hardware drivers' icon to activate my Broadcom wireless driver is no where to be found. Any idea?

Add the required firmware manually and the card activated on its own:mrwes wrote:Just finished installing the RC version and I noticed the 'hardware drivers' icon to activate my Broadcom wireless driver is no where to be found. Any idea?

Re: Linux Mint Xfce (RC) - No Hardware Drivers
try this go to the terminal and copy paste the following:
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter
Re: Linux Mint Xfce (RC) - No Hardware Drivers
I of course did that, and normally the firmware is downloaded, extracted and installed -- that did not happen. I therefore, had to finish the installation manually. Might be something to look at before the final release.aljoriz wrote:try this go to the terminal and copy paste the following:Code: Select all

Re: Linux Mint Xfce (RC) - No Hardware Drivers
What wireless hardware do you have? You may find that the Broadcom-STA (wl) or brcm80211 are better drivers for your wireless chipset. The inxi package is not installed by default in LMDE, so I do not know if it is in Xfce by default but this command will give your chipset and driver it is trying to use.
Here is a tutorial I did on installing the wl driver in LMDE http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=141&t=57056
Code: Select all
inxi -N
Re: Linux Mint Xfce (RC) - No Hardware Drivers
Debian doesn't have that application so you have to do it manually.

am I correct in saying this is one area where Linux Mint9 xfce variant shine?merlwiz79 wrote:Debian doesn't have that application so you have to do it manually.
Re: Linux Mint Xfce (RC) - No Hardware Drivers
Mint 9 XFCE has the Drivers application already, in Debian-based Mint Ikey is writing it, you will be able to download it from the software manager when it's ready.
