I found that if I right clicked the [Menu] button selected [Properties] then [use custom menu] and navigated to /etc/xdg/menus then selected the file called xfce-applications.menu.dpkg-dist rather than xfce-applications.menu that my menu returned to it's old self.

I'm a brand spanking new Linux Mint XFCE user (have been using Ubuntu for years), and I'm very impressed with this OS (after only trying it for about an hour). I, too, noticed the problem with the menu like everyone else in this thread. I tried your suggestion wobblybob, and unfortunately I don't have a menu called "xfce-applications.menu.dpkg-dist." I tried the other menu options sitting in /etc/xdg/menus, and none of those changed the look of my menu. I'll try that attachment that was provided on page 2 of this thread to see if that helps.

You all can do it the hardcore way, reading what i found here: https://vascoblog.wordpress.com/2011/03 ... -4-8-menu/

It has an explanation as to why those entries appear and then at the end links for actual documentation that will help do what you want

Here's a way I was able to get the xfce menu back in proper order that survives a reboot:

download this package:
http://packages.debian.org/sid/all/libg ... n/download

then run:
sudo dpkg --force-all --purge libgarcon-common

and
sudo dpkg -i libgarcon-common_0.1.7-1_all.deb

now your menu will look better, but it won't survive a reboot. To make that happen, I did this before rebooting:
cp /etc/xdg/menus/* ~/.config/menus/

its ugly but it seems to do the trick until the fixed menus can get in the repos.
