Can see wireless network but can't connect (SOLVED)

I've been using Fluxbox CE this week with no problems. Then, suddenly, yesterday my netbook would no longer connect to my wireless network. There is no apparent reason for this to have happened. My usage has been normal.

Here is the output of inxi -N

Network: Card-1 Broadcom NetLink BCM5906M Fast Ethernet PCI Express driver tg3 Card-2 Broadcom BCM4312 802.11b/g driver wl


Here is the output of iwconfig

lo no wireless extensions. eth0 no wireless extensions. eth2 IEEE 802.11bg ESSID:"" Nickname:"" Mode:Managed Frequency:2.457 GHz Access Point: Not-Associated Bit Rate:54 Mb/s Tx-Power:32 dBm Retry min limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off Power Managementmode:All packets received


When I first installed Fluxbox I loaded the Broadcom restricted drivers with a wired connection and everything came up like it should until now.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to restore my wireless connection?

Silly question; do you have a switch or button to disable wireless for airplane usage?

Yes, there is a switch, but it is on. I have a windows partition (still on training wheels!) and it works fine in XP.

When your Grub comes up at startup, is there an earlier version under Linux Mint? If so. scroll down to it and see if it works. There have been some conflicts with the new kernel and Broadcom Drivers.

Thanks for all the help. Still not sure what happened but this morning it is suddenly working fine again. Perhaps it was a conflict between grub and the broadcom driver -- but I really didn't do anything that resolved it. It just started working again as before.

I have similar troubles but with an Intel 4965 AGN card in my Thinkpad.

Boot, login, and use the net without any troubles.
... click ... the network stops talking although the connection stays in place
(network-manager shows lots of bars and such)
From this point forward, any attempt to use the net fails with "no connection" or similar errors.

I have a second identical thinkpad running Ubuntu Jaunty (v9.04) without this network failure.
The failing thinkpad runs Mint Gloria (v7) which I think is built on Jaunty. Mint-7 is still using 2.6.28-11-generic.
However, jaunty has posted repository updates to kerrnel 2.6.28-18-generic.

I don't know enough about this to report details. If anyone asks, "What does XXX command report?" I'll gladly reply.
