NetworkManager Applet icon sometimes disappears

I connect to the internet via a 3G USB modem and sometimes the NetworkManager Applet icon disappears when the connection is lost. If I reconnect the modem, it sometimes appears, but mostly it stays hidden. I have to reboot in order to see it again.

I've never had this problem with LM9 (gnome version). Is this a known issue in LM9 Fluxbox? I wasn't able to find anything with a search.
