compaq headphones muting speakers when pluged in solution

For any one using the compaq cq60, having problems with their headphones not muting the speakers when plugged in, this solution worked for me in fluxbox 9.
First install linux-backports-modules-alsa-lucid-generic using whatever method you prefer
then type

sudo leafpad alsa-base.conf

in your terminal
add the line " options snd-hda-intel model=dell-vostro " (without quotation marks) to the end of the file
save
reboot
