fonts - pixel, bitmap, monospace, console, desktop

...but mostly i'd like t have console fonts on menus/windows/apps.
i noticed there's a whole bunch of fonts in /usr/share/fonts/type1 and ../x11, and i think they are the same that xfontsel shows me, but there doesn't seem to be any way to use them, the font list to choose from is only ttf and otf fonts?
also no way to add new fonts of those types?
