It's fantastic to finally see the KDE variant of Linux Mint 4.0 finalized! I have to say, however, that I was quite disappointed (and a little disturbed) by the default wallpaper and modified Mint logo. The logo appears to have "bugs" crawling over it, and the fact that it's blue makes it even more bizarre looking. Perhaps I'm missing something here but I just don't like it at all. Who devised this and what were they thinking?

It is indeed polished, and gorgeous! :)
I was pretty surprised by the ~300MB of updates it needed though.
It's only 2 days old and took longer to update then install. :?:

Very nice though, it'll stay on the lappie for a good long while I think.

I played with it during my lunch break - install is for the week-end when I'm home long enough - but it is beautiful, a pleasure to use. Despite what some said, I kind of like the logo - I'd have prefered it in green though, but then I have issues with blue.

Thank you Boo, for all the time you invested in this, in making it so polished, it was definitely worth the wait! :D
I don't have a solution, but I do admire the problem.

Great distro and great job to all
Installation was a breeze, just had to download updating files quite a bit but OK
Envy worked flawlessly with my ATI X1950 card
Just asmall niggle when trying GL-117. Seems intercation with my wireless mouse (Logitech)
Very fast in loading and being ready to work with this KDE version.
Still have the same niggle as before: Mint is loaded on a PATA drive and I have a SATA as backup. Gnome do recognize it immediately but KDE not
I have to mount it every times. I tried the "automount" in mint install but still no luck. I can live with this anyway

I would like to inform you, that language packs during install will be downloaded but not installed
This happened with the "de" (Germany)packages. Internet connection was enabled and I saw that the packages were downloaded to HD, but installation failed  Packages were saved to /var/cache/apt/archive on Harddisc.

Can other non english speakers confirm that ? I am a bit frustrated :?

cheers
Bernado

Dear Bernardo:

I did my tests with Mint Linux 4.0 CE running it as live cd
When i installed support to Portuguese Language i receive the same message reported by you
I solved the problem restarting the X - central> alt> backspace - not worked...so
Restart the system or shut it down and turn it on again

New
follow this steps
Kde Control Center > regional & accessibility
country/region & language
install new language
wait adept batch to finish
a message: add idiom
add your language (not necessary uninstall english - let yours first in the list - point mouse to read
message:
it will only apply after closing session - better yet as live cd central > alt > backspace (restart X)
for keyboard: the same place - kde control center - keeboard layout - enable operation - make changes
to your keeboard layout - remove english

Hope i can help you

You know guy i am a fan of Kde and now i get myself a dilema
This Kde version of Mint Linux is fantastic!
I have Mint Linux 4.0 Mean Edition Daryna version installed under Gnome on my hard drive
and i am full satisfied and i do not want delete it. So, i am studying a way to install
Kde CE 4.0 into hdb (second hd)

Mint Linux team: Congratulations!

Hugs

It will not be available for mint 4 kde.
There are instructions on how to install it on gutsy on the web for the DIY people out there.
I do not see it being in mint 5 kde, more likely mint 6 or later.

Forgive me for posting again, but Is the default kernel pre-patched concerning the local-user privilege escalation issue that surfaced not to long ago? I didn't see it in the release notes or mentioned in the forums, so I figured I'd just go ahead and ask.

Thanks :)

The kernel is the origional Ubuntu 7.10 one.
so the answer is no to it being pre-patched for anything by us.

Hello, I am currently downloading Linuxmint 4 KDE CE from here:
http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/linuxmint.com/ ... KDE-CE.iso
It says it's 996 MB large, but the download (Opera) didn't stop when it reached that size, it continued, it's already at 1.3 GB.
Could someone reply me fast what that means? The download also started extremely fast, I normally have about 220 KB/s, I clicked it accidentaly and checked it after about one minute and it was already at 94%
So what now? It has ?/?GB
And I have a limited download capacity of 2 GB/month
Could someone tell me fast what to do?
