Breaking News (1st of april)

Linux Mint is merging with PCLinuxOS, Mepis and Slackware to form a single distribution called Apriloofix. The resulting distribution will be slackware-based but it will use a combination of APT and RPM for its package management. It will only support the X86_64 architecture and come with a reimplementation of Java Desktop in Mono as its main desktop environment. Also, the project will be acquired and sponsored by a consortium called "Visual Linux", driven by Sun and Microsoft. The ambition of Apriloofix will be to gain significant market share by migrating current Ubuntu, SUSE, Fedora and Mandriva users and by providing them with an ideal platform to dual boot with Microsoft Vista. Apriloofix will be fully compatible with Vista thanks to the fact that it will use the same kernel, only the user will have the impression to actually run Linux.

I have no doubt this will be a tremendous success and I really look forward to work with Steve Ballmer on that one. I'd like to thank Patrick, TexStar and Warren for sharing the same vision and for joining forces in doing what will be the Linux of the future. Linux Mint is dead, long live Apriloofix!!

Clem

Clem,

Outstanding idea!! Finally, a better Linux is on the horizon!

I am sure you will enjoy working with my buddy Steve B. He is a technical genius. Now if you could get Daryl M. to manage the project, how could it possibly fail!

Keep up the good work. :-)

Fred

Hello Clem,
Good work boy!
Now the Linux Mint Enterprise edition Elyssa Vista 10.0 should bring in a great deal of revenue. A good investment, indeed.
Lots of luck to the new merger. :)
Cheers,
npap

OK Clem, OK :( Ciao and good luck!
It is over one year that I am searching for a pretext to go back to MS.
Since Vista, I am jealous of every colleague who's playing with this fantastic OS (I only switch my laptop on when I am alone in my hotel room...)
Was nice to meet you here... Was nice to try Mint but... it is so psychedelic somewhere to discover that computing can be so boring...
Sure that Bill G will be happy about a new sponsor

Phil

I didn't realize April Fools Day was a world-wide event. I thought it was just an American phenomenon.
Has anyone seen the list of Linux distros on Distrowatch.com? The original names are so unusual to begin with, some of the "new names" are an improvement.

What's happening to the Linux World?! Distro names in Distrowatch are changed. Now the Merger?
clem says the project is sponsored by Visual Linux and is driven by Sun and Microsoft. I don't get it sorry. Does it mean the project is partly funded by Microsoft? It's a joke.lol. I know don't get it... sorry for my poor comprehension :D

I would have believed this if it were not for the fact that my birthday is today and I am sued to so many April fools day jokes. Good one!. At any rate I am glad Linux Mint will just be Linux mint after using PCLinuxOS I would not recommend working with that group on a Linux OS. I would be worried what the outcome would be! So the saying goes don't fix it if it ain't broke!

I love April Fools Day :-)
