Glad to see you have ditched the ugly green theme and gone for something prettier (and more consistent with the main distro!)
I'm downloading it now, can't wait

Re: Linux Mint 5 Elyssa XFCE CE RC1 (BETA 025) is out!
Everytime I try doing anything with synaptic I get the following error message:
Some of the packages could not be retrieved from the server(s).
Do you want to continue, ignoring these packages?
If I click Yes to ignore I get error messages like:
W: Failed to fetch http://packages.medibuntu.org/pool/free ... 1_i386.deb
404 Not Found [IP: 88.191.30.43 80]

Should the liveCD be auto mounting my other partitions? Because I just had to manually mount everything before it would show any trace of my harddrives.

Also, I'm sure it's too late to change this now, but why is Exaile the default music player? It's known to be a system hog compared to Rhythmbox when using large music libraries. And even if it wasn't, a consistent approach with the same apps as the main distro (where possible) is the best way to go!
Re: Linux Mint 5 Elyssa XFCE CE RC1 (BETA 025) is out!
I tested Xfce CE in virtualbox and it's very nice distro:) but I think that instead exaile should be new banshee 1.0 I think that it's best GTK player
Re: Linux Mint 5 Elyssa XFCE CE RC1 (BETA 025) is out!
Merlwiz79 did an unbelievably good job with the Xfce CE. It was a real pleasure to test and the customizations make the Xfce edition especially nice.
My congratulations to merlwiz79 for the great work he has done.

Re: Linux Mint 5 Elyssa XFCE CE RC1 (BETA 025) is out!
I'm burning it and will test it ASAP. From the screenshots, however, I've seen that - like in Elyssa Main - there is no desktop switcher by default. I've always wondered why. It's the first thing I add to the panel, and one of the most useful things in Linux. I'd add it by default, and wrote a paragraph on it in the User Guide; newbies HAVE to know and use it, it's so refreshing to eliminate Window's typical clutter in the application bar!
Re: Linux Mint 5 Elyssa XFCE CE RC1 (BETA 025) is out!
Merlwiz actually added one. I removed it. As you said I don't like the bar to be cluttered and since you can switch with the keyboard you don't really need an applet.

belovedmonster, this is a problem with the medibuntu repo, whatever the problem was they seem to have it resolved now.Everytime I try doing anything with synaptic I get the following error message:

Very nice!
Could not get EnvyNG to install my nvidia driver. I got an exception error; 'The following portages could not be installed: Linux-box envy #'. I then installed the drivers through the Hardware Drivers menu and it now shows the proprietary drivers to be in use. However, the usual momentary nvidia screen does not show up before the desktop loads. Has this screen been disabled?

Re: Linux Mint 5 Elyssa XFCE CE RC1 (BETA 025) is out!
Greetings,
It's a wonderful news.
Hope it is based on the more recent Xubuntu 8.04.1 were some glitches were corrected.
I love MINT and it has my preference.
However XFCE gained my heart and is my choice to everybody usage.
It is the one I do recommend without ANY doubt whatsoever.
At the moment I'm using Gnome MINT which is configured with My XFCE preferences.
But is a 1GHz PC... it is fast, but why not make it faster and simpler?!?
And have the same thing as on the PCs I give away or the Environment I advise people to use?
For more than a year, I 'forced' XFCE to my step daughter to avoid the usual problems of M$.
Great! The PC sometimes is working for a full month without turning off. It is easily used.
She likes the system and stability... Even so she asks: Why not XP? Everybody use it !
There there's nothing to do... Teenagers!
So I'll keep the 400MHz PC at her desk. It gives no problems. Runs without flaws.
In a few weeks will be upgraded. Guess what? Yes! to MINT XFCE.
Thanks guys. You are those who help me sleep well with no problems from the teenager field.
And all my admiration to those who started the XFCE project. It's a dream come true!
Cheers.

Hi,
The same to me (hard drives partitions) I have 2 hds on this computer. It is going
to be all Minty -Gnome -KDE - XFCE +XP
On Xubuntu, PC/OS - The same old story (no hard drives partitions)
I do not run them.
No problem with synaptic - hardware, pen drives etc.
Keyboard model - Brazilian ABNT2
Keyboard layout - thinkpad??? - gee, it worked fine
Cons: network -ppoeconf - Terminal - sudo route add default ppp0 to surf the web
Nice collection of apps and tools.
Now i am running it (Mint's 5 XFCE CE) through Live Cd and i don't know if am going
to install it on my hard drive before the final and definitive version.
mousepad - read me
os-prober is present mintUpdate
does not autostart on the Live CD
This post can not be considered as a test response but a partial one.
Note: It seems Linux Mint 5 XFCE CE, still not appears on Distrowatch.
Very cool!
Congratulation! Merlwiz79, Clem and the team
Cheers,
Roberto
Re: Linux Mint 5 Elyssa XFCE CE RC1 (BETA 025) is out!
The switcher allows me to check if I left some open windows in the other desktops; though, as you say, it's not strictly necessary.clem wrote:Merlwiz actually added one. I removed it. Anyway, the Beta looks really great. In the LiveCD everything worked smoothly, and it's very good-looking. Congratulations to Merlwiz and to the whole team!
Re: Linux Mint 5 Elyssa XFCE CE RC1 (BETA 025) is out!
Everything works fine so far. I thought I had a problem with screen resolution but I was able to verify that it was correct. Great job.

Add some chinese font as default it will be better, suchs as "ttf-arphic-uming"
By the way, i found that linux mint(s) do not support asian fonts well(For ex:filename,i can't view or ty filename in chinese or jap or kor)

Re: Linux Mint 5 Elyssa XFCE CE RC1 (BETA 025) is out!
I had it on the panel by default because many people ask about it.clem wrote:Merlwiz actually added one. I removed it. As you said I don't like the bar to be cluttered and since you can switch with the keyboard you don't really need an applet.
Clem.
It's easier to remove then have more ask how to add it on.
Also Xubuntu has the pager on the panel by default.
