Re: Linux Mint 17 "Qiana" Cinnamon is out!
Very many thanks for all the hard work. I am a fairly recnt convert and after trying a few varieties of Linux I have found LM to be the best.
Re: Linux Mint 17 "Qiana" Cinnamon is out!
Congrats to the team! Good job. Nice release !
Re: Linux Mint 17 "Qiana" Cinnamon is out!
Thanks! I'll await KDE though. Will KDE have RC or are they just releasing the "Stable" version without RC first?
Re: Linux Mint 17 "Qiana" Cinnamon is out!
Thanks Linux Mint team This is the best Linux distro release ever out!! Congrats
Re: Linux Mint 17 "Qiana" Cinnamon is out!
I did read the release notes but could not find anything concerning the transition from RC to stable. Can I simply update the RC to get the stable version or do I need to reinstall?
Re: Linux Mint 17 "Qiana" Cinnamon is out!
Run all level 1, 2 and 3 updates and that is it. RC becomes a stable version.

Re: Linux Mint 17 "Qiana" Cinnamon is out!
Thanks for the reply. So apt-get dist-upgrade should work?
Re: Linux Mint 17 "Qiana" Cinnamon is out!
No, just use the Update Manager. When updates come, install them. apt-get dist-upgrade is for when you wanna switch from (for example) Mint 16 to Mint 17

? According to my knowledge apt-get dist-upgrade is the same as apt-get update except that it also installs new packages and removes obsolete ones. This has nothing to do with ugrading to a new version (like 16 to 17). At least not when it comes to Linux Mint. As far as I know Linux Mint does not allow upgrades from one version to another.
Re: Linux Mint 17 "Qiana" Cinnamon is out!
I'm assuming that it takes several hours for the updated files to get to the mirrors - ?? - as I see no updates from RC yet
Re: Linux Mint 17 "Qiana" Cinnamon is out!
Wonderful release, great job with Mint 17!
Re: Linux Mint 17 "Qiana" Cinnamon is out!
This is very exciting! I plan on trying Cinnamon first (running 16 MATE now). If my old laptop has issues, I'll go back to 17 MATE. Thanks to Clem and the whole team for this amazing OS!

Wow, must say this is an awesome release, feels so much snappier and everything looks sharper on my screen even though I only have a 720p screen.
Linux Mint 20.3 (Cinnamon) 64bit.

It allows upgrades, it's just not recommended.

Linux Mint 17 KDE should have an RC release before the stable as in the past.konjad wrote:Thanks! I'll await KDE though. Will KDE have RC or are they just releasing the "Stable" version without RC first?

Re: Linux Mint 17 "Qiana" Cinnamon is out!
I downloaded from the University of Oklahoma mirror last night. Prior to it going up on the main site. Had to go with the 32 bit version as the 64 bit version just doesn't work right with my system. So far so good.
