Repositories are down! [Solved]

Post by clem »

Our server is down and so are the repositories. We apologize for the inconvenience and we're trying to come with a solution as fast as possible.

Is this the reason why mintUpdate can't connect?

Good luck fixing it =D

Sorry that sounds like a straight forward post but I just installed Linux Mint now for the first time. I'm new to Linux in general. Is that why my system won't update?

I guess so.I just reinstalled Mint, and I was surprised to see that mintUpdate wasn't working. If yours isn't too, then it must be because of this.

I'm sure they'll fix it in notime!

Yes, this definitely impacts mintUpdate. Our server isn't reachable via ssh at the moment. I'm trying to contact our sysadmin to see if we can get it remotely rebooted. I hope it's not hardware related...

Is it back up, just mint update just worked for me and it had about 8 packages or so that I updated.

I hope it isn't another attack. I've been told it's just better practice to avoid using SSH, but it sure is handy to be able to administer remotely. Hope you guys can work it out.

I was wondering if something had gone wrong.

[my short story]
mintUpate notified me of an update so I applied it. The update went installed with no problems. I had to reboot to test a startup script. After the reboot, I noticed a broken lock in the task bar. I ran mintUpdate several times and it would not go through. I thought my install had gone bad from the last update. So I came here to see if the repositories where down and they are sure enough they are. Thank You for letting everybody know of the problem. Hope you don't have a hard time getting it running again.

Thanks for all you're hard work :)

Hi,

Levels 1,2,3 - i like this way - never had a problem with updates.

Well, yesterday late in the night i noticed the that mintUpdate lock was open. Then i entered with my password
e no updates available. I am seeding 3 isos - KDE CE _XFCE CE _ Fluxbox rc1 5. (other computer - KDE CE
- Cable connection. _ KTorrent )
So no internet trouble at that time. 09/23/2008

Today evening a little before midnight Mint Gnome Main Edition Elyssa 5 peformed 21 updates (the lasrt ones
were xulrunner-1.9.0.2 e one more xulrunner- gnome support) ADSL connection. 09/24/2008

KDE CE 5 Elyssa performed 12 updates (the last ones xulrunner 1.9.0.2 and one more)

Summary: MintUpdate is facing troubles to connect to the internet. When updates has been done, mintUpdate
takes more or less 10 or 15m to return to its normal status. It passes an impression that it could be crashed.
It's not true.

Clem, I think you could take a rapid look on the server (as a matter of security) to certify yourself if this
problem only due to an internal temporary server down for sure.

Best
Roberto

Some of the repositories are still down:

W: Failed to fetch http://packages.linuxmint.com/dists/elyssa/Release.gpg Could not connect to packages.linuxmint.com:80 (80.86.83.193), connection timed out

W: Failed to fetch http://packages.linuxmint.com/dists/ely ... -en_US.bz2 Unable to connect to packages.linuxmint.com http:

W: Failed to fetch http://packages.linuxmint.com/dists/ely ... -en_US.bz2 Unable to connect to packages.linuxmint.com http:

W: Failed to fetch http://packages.linuxmint.com/dists/ely ... -en_US.bz2 Unable to connect to packages.linuxmint.com http:

Please fix I wanted to add some backport repositories and afraid to do so.

Hmmm... That explains it.

http://packages.linuxmint.com/ is down. I thought I was going nuts.

The server is back up. I'm not fully aware of the cause of the problem now but it looks like the filesystem got mixed up and a reboot put things back in place. I'll go through this with our sysadmin Michael to make sure the disk itself is intact.

In the meantime I'll make up to dates backups.

Clem.
