As the Mints I have used before, it was running out of the box, and is working happily.
No problems with flash as I have them encountered with ubuntu 8.10 x64.
How comes it, that Clem and the others can do a job that the paid developers at Ubuntu can not do?
Thanks you all

H.

PS.: Two wishes, but no critic. I wish to have OpenOffice 3 and OpenArena 0.8.1

for linux to be successful on the desktop for normal users, normal users have to feel comfortable with it.
The interesting users are your mother, your neighbor. Those are the people that will decide whether or not linux is accepted on the desktop.

Thanks for the 64 bit version.

I have tried to install it using mint4win, but this does not appear possible at the moment.
It tries to access the installation files from the internet, and fails in doing so (because they're not there?).
In any case I would much prefer to install from the files on the CD which I have downloaded.
Is it not possible to point the exe to the .iso or the CD itself?
Thanks in advance.

do you already know when the "final" will be available?

will it be possible to easily "update to final" from the current rc?

via mintupdate?

thx.

I'm wondering about this as well. I have become a huge Mint fan in the past week, when I completely abandoned Windows and did a fresh install of Felicia (32 bit version). However, I have full 64 capabilities and after some messing around, I feel I can use a fresh install of the 64 bit to take better advantage of my hardware. My concerns, however, are the same as the above poster. Will I be able to upgrade the RC version easily through mintupdate, or do I have to do another clean install when it goes out of RC status? Is it better to wait a little longer for a fully stable x64 release? Thank you very much.

PS: BIG kudos to the Linux Mint team. You guys have done an amazing job.

The Grubloader is ok but the Splash Screen never fills my Screen. Is Letterbox, kind of annoying to see it everytime like that. Wondering if this is a bug or you guys havent made Widescreen Splash screen yet?

Hi, I haven't tried Mint 6-64 yet, currently on Ubuntu 8.10-64, but why does it say on the Mint Download page;
"Note that the Main Edition (which is 32bit) is usually more stable and it also supports 64bit processors."
To which regard are 64-bit editions (in general) more unstable?
(I know that Felicia-64 is not final yet but the above 'warning' is always displayed).
Cheers.

I've been running it since it's release, very stable IMO. They just haven't tested it as thorough as the 32 Bit. In regards to 32 Bit vs 64 Bit, I've been running 64 Bit Linux for a couple of years, I think it's more stable than 32 Bit.

On Real player (rm, rmvb) files the videos are out of sync with the audio. Other formats seems to be fine so far that I've tested.

Also, I get mount errors when trying to mount or access other internal hard drives.

Once the bugs are under control, Mint-64 looks like it will be the Distro others are measured by.

Thank You!

Here's your Challenge,

A Quadcore AMD 9850 Blackbox Edition CPU, Asus M3A32-MVP Deluxe Motherboard, 8 Gbs Corsair Dominator RAM, Two ASUS 3870 X2 ATI videocards (Crossfire), 1200 watt Silverstone Zeus PSU, and a WD 10,000 rpm Raptor Hdd in an Antec 1200 case.

This is a hardcore Vista Ultimate (64-bit) machine with a linux hatin', penguin stompin', screw you Linus attitude.

I, really, regret the Vista thing; but, I got a good deal on the OS and built a machine for it. It sets here, kind of like that "darkside" tree in the Star Wars movie and now I'm trying to save it. :)

So far, no 64-bit linux OS has worked; although, Sidux almost made it. Ubuntu v7.10 (64-bit) installed but kept locking up so much it was useless.

I put my money on ATI, ATI has always been trouble both on Windows and Linux, crappy drivers.
