ok, you all have bugs, and sooner or later, they will be fixed, and fix will come on mintupdate i supose.
but I can not make update, there are now 21 recomended updates for me, but I can't do any.
Is there any manual way to do these updates?

hello,
I've been a mandriva user and linux user for a few weeks and I tried this promising Mint Gloria. The things i tried worked perfectly, in fact, the mint live cd worked better than my mandriva! I can't wait till the stable version come out!
Except for one thing: the resolution of the screen is too small and impossible to upgrade... I have an sis 670/671 graphic card and the problem was solved after I installed this driver http://www.4shared.com/file/102687939/72dfe5f7/xorg-driver-sis671_09_i386.html and restarted the session. It would be so nice to have this from the start

Compiz Debug with VMWare Workstation

Postby tunix77 on Thu May 14, 2009 5:59 pm

Hi,
Running VMWare Workstation works fine - but a Bug is, that I have to Minimize the VMWare Workstation - in the previous Releases it was possible to switch the Screen to the left or right to the other Desktop to work local. Now with RC1 the VMWare Workstation Window is moving to the Desktop I would like to access.

Thanks for great work - it looks good for an RC1 Release.

Gnome-do: default keybinding is super+space. super also is tied to the main menu so there's a conflict. Suggest the ability to disable tying super to the menu.

Quick Synergy (synergy): mouse can be used from a remote computer but keyboard cannot (this seems to work fine in Ubuntu 9.04, not sure what's different)

Compiz-fusion can't be enabled. Have the nvidia drivers working and nvidia-settings has my dual screen (twinview) working, but trying to use the Appearance tool to turn on desktop effects fails.

I found this on page 5 of this topic. I also had issues with enabling compiz and this worked for me. (Thank you Wild Sioux) :D
Other than that-this is the first of many distros I have tried where everything works. FN keys, video, audio, you name it. I keep trying to break it tho'.

Code: Select all
echo SKIP_CHECKS=yes > ~/.config/compiz/compiz-manager

LOL, why...you did not say. I am having no issue with Jaunty. It was intrepid that I couldn't wait to dispose of.

No problem...although I don't think that is the proper way of making compiz work. But until the devs come up with a fix in the final Mint 7 this will do for those of you who use compiz and gnome. As for me, I installed kubuntu-desktop and completely removed gnome. I now have Mint 7 with KDE 4.2.3 and should be 4.3 beta 1 here soon once the repo is updated. The new folder view and other changes look great.

Well for me, it's because it is still such an early release and not all of the bugs have been ironed out. That's what gets me about Ubuntu. They have this 6 month release cycle which in my opinion is too soon. Don't get me wrong though, I like some of the features that Jaunty/Gloria has but I tested it out, and wasn't thrilled with the final outcome. It's all personal preference; for some they'll love it, and others won't.

I'll either wait a little while for Gloria to become final and release a 64bit version, or I will just wait longer for 9.10. Besides I have Felicia just the way I want it... perfect.

Finally usplash-theme-mint 7.0.1 is available (mintupdate) but should change the size of Linux Mint logo there.

Yep, I am getting my Linux Mint updates from identi.ca. I signed up for identi.ca because of Mint posts. I was never interested in the proprietary Twitter stuff, but identi.ca is open-source. :D

1) After the update this evening mint update disappeared from the bar.
2) cannot start mint update, mint install, synaptic from the menu

When I click on the programs in the menu, there is only the rotating cycle, and in the bar shows up "a program for system administration is opening" (roughly translated from German by me) then is a flash over the screen and after a while that rotating wheel disappears. Also I cannot de install any programs from the menu. There happens the same.
This was from the beginning, but I could start mint update from the bar and after that I could do what I really wanted to do. But now after the mint update icon in the bar is gone.....
I hope there is a solution
just curious

H.

solved with the updates, my thanks to the team

for linux to be successful on the desktop for normal users, normal users have to feel comfortable with it.

Hey there! First time around here but I've been a Mint user since Elyssa, I have an Acer Aspire One and I'm testing Gloria. I found that the bar when I change the screen brightness does not reflect the current brightness I mean the bar is half way when the screen gets to its highest brightness and vice versa. Also I set the visual effects to custom, enabled extra animations and set the following:

Open Window: Beam
Close Window: Magic Lamp
Minimize: Burn
Enabled: Expo, Blur, Wobbly, Ring Switcher.

Then when I close the Appearance Preferences dialog the screen starts filling with black squares and the OS stops responding, not even Ctrl+Alt+Backspace works and actually Gloria installation got corrupted I could not start Gloria again, so I reinstalled and right now I'm working without visual effects, so far everything else has been working great, thanks for this wonderful distribution and I'll continue testing Gloria .

Thanks willxtreme I'll do that right away, it's just that it did not happened when I installed Elyssa and I'm relative new using Linux so there is still a lot of things for me to learn and will you mind explaining why the xorg needs this entries??? Thanks again.

mintUpdate is not showing up in the panel today. I can manually run mintUpdate, it will work and show up in the panel but when I restart the icon does not appear. Is anyone else having this problem?

Lol I wish I knew. I started with Felicia and got used to that function. That's why I reported that as a bug at the beginning of the thread but I wonder if it's really a bug. Xorg.conf is the config file for video settings but does disabling the Zap function should be considered a bug? I guess not but when Gloria RC1 came out, we knew what was new in it but not what was removed. We'll see if we can "zap" in the stable release and if we can't, at least we know how to make it work 8)

I consider zap my "ghetto reset" but Linux Mint is pretty solid so I don't use it as much as Ctrl+Alt+Delete in Windoze

This was fixed (without having to do the hack...)

This issue was fixed in the latest mintsystem (version 7.4.2).

Then reboot.

The update came in mintupdate a few days ago for me.

I found another bug while trying to resolve another unrelated issue (network drive wakes up in gtk file dialogs without even navigating to it) in the KDE version I have installed. But since it is related to Mint 7 Gloria I will post. The only way I found out about this was running gimp, openoffice, and firefox from command line came up with this error...

Code: Select all
Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module": libcanberra-gtk-module.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
kdialogd4(4370) KDialogD::timeout: Timeout occured, and no connections, so exit

Installing "canberra-gtk-module" resolved this error. Those were the only programs I have tested. But other gtk apps may have the same issue.

~ This KGtk app is what I am installing to resolve the issue I am having.

I am also having this issue with mintupdate not showing in the panel. I had to start it from the menu (the icon was removed from the menu for mintupdate). And now it shows in the taskbar, but is not showing the full icon (KDE issue?).
